Optimum Nutrition Cake Bites Are Life-Changing

Nutrition

Okay, so I want to start off this post by saying this isn't like our normal articles or reviews. In fact, maybe it isn't really a review at all — perhaps it's far too biased to be a real review, because I've officially ventured into fanboy territory. It must be stated:

Optimum Nutrition Cake Bites are life-changing.

They're so good that with each bite you question your very existence. Every tidbit of health and nutrition knowledge you've acquired over the years, based on a rock-solid foundation of experience, comes under question because of a very real conflict: something this delicious just has to be terrible for you. Right?

Wrong.

Optimum Nutrition Cake Bites

A Tale of Nutrition Engineering Mastery

Optimum Nutrition (ON) is known for high-quality supplements. They are arguably the most well-known and reputable brand in the supplement industry. Nearly all of their products are solid in terms of nutritional content, and most of them taste good, too. But Cake Bites take this to the next level — they are the real deal.

ON has achieved something pretty much unheard of in its industry: they've actually created a nutrition product that is selling faster than can be manufactured. In recent months, a search for Cake Bites on the major supplement eCommerce sites like Amazon or Bodybuilding.com has returned product pages with bright red letters reading "OUT OF STOCK".

Thankfully this is starting to turn around, and people who haven't been able to try them yet are finally getting the chance (including myself). After that first taste, many of these lucky people are seeing the world in a different light. If you think this is dramatic, that's only because you haven't tried Cake Bites.

What Are Optimum Nutrition Cake Bites?

Cake Bites are Optimum Nutrition's latest protein product. They are basically protein bars, if each bar were sectioned into three smaller "bites". And that is perhaps the best way to describe them: They are a snack food with nutritional stats like a protein bar but with a taste like a real dessert.

I don't normally hype a product, but I'm used to normally dulling my expectations for health food products, since there's usually some sort of give and take for health products — a certain sacrifice of taste for its healthier nutritional data (and certainly as far as sweets go).

Speaking of — let's look at the nutrition facts.

Optimum Nutrition Cake Bites Nutritional Data

This is a protein product, in the mold of other protein bars. The nutrition facts are similar to that of a Quest Protein Bar, though are a little less optimal.

ON Cake Bites nutritional data

(Note that the above nutrition label is for the red velvet flavor Cake Bites.)

  • Calories: 230
  • Total Fat: 7g
  • Saturated Fat: 4g
  • Total Carbohydrate: 22g
  • Dietary Fiber: 0g
  • Sugars: 5g
  • Protein: 20g

Summarizing, a serving of Optimum Nutrition Cake Bites (Red Velvet flavor) has 230 calories, including 7 grams of fat (4g saturated fat), 22 grams of carbohydrates, zero fiber, 5 grams sugar, and 20 grams of protein.

Going over these stats, there are a few negatives that I can see:

  1. Saturated fat is a little higher than my liking - 4g per serving isn't terrible, but I'd prefer if it were lower.
  2. There is no dietary fiber - Fiber is one of the most important elements in satiating hunger; this may make Cake Bites less effective than other protein bars (that have fiber) at keeping you feeling full longer.
  3. There is some added sugar - I like to see only natural sugars, especially in a product like this, but it's a great thing that Optimum Nutrition is very open about the fact there's added sugars and mentions it right inside the label. So extra points to ON there.

Final Thoughts

This has turned more into a Cake Bites review than I intended, but once I got going I wanted to be thorough in my analysis.

As we've seen, these Cake Bites aren't perfect — meaning it wouldn't be smart to overdo it. But they'd certainly be great in place of the protein bar you have a few times a week. And it can't be overstated that they taste phenomenal. For me personally, I'll continue to use my whey protein, of course, and a meal replacement shake every once in a while, but I will definitely use Cake Bites as an occasional treat to myself, since they are as tasty as any dessert I've ever had.

And if you've never had them yet... jump over to Amazon and check if they're in stock, and if they are, prepare to have your life forever changed.
